The
monastery dates from the early 1200s, and now forms a wing of
the castle. The monks (from a French order founded in 1120) occupied
the monastery until 1537 when it was closed down as a result
of the Reformation. They lived mostly from agriculture and fishing.
A small stream that once connected the two lakes ran right through
the centre of the kitchen and the monks literally fished for
trout from the warmth and convenience of the kitchen hearth!
The rooms are quite close to the original kitchen and are either
on the ground floor or the first floor, with views to the inner
courtyard or to surrounding the gardens and pastures. All rooms
are classed as Price Category 1 accommodation.
Number of rooms available: 9 (5 double, 4 single)
