Bäckaskog Castle is situated in a beautiful, but unpopulated part of Scania. The closest big town is Kristianstad (see map) from where we will pick up delegates by bus (outside Kristianstad Railway Station). These buses will depart regularly throughout Friday August 1st 2008. Delegates arriving on other days will need to take a taxi from Kristianstad to Bäckaskog. For taxi services call 044-12 30 00. The trip should cost 303 SEK from Kristianstad to Bäckaskog and 463 SEK from Kristianstad airport for a car fitting 1-4 people (Dec 2007). A bigger car fitting 5-8 people costs 557 and 748 SEK respectively.

Most international travellers will arrive by air at Kastrup Airport or at Sturup Airport, however, Kristianstad Airport may also be an option for some delegates.

How to get to Kristianstad Railway Station:

From Copenhagen/Kastrup Airport: Since July 2000, Denmark and Sweden are joined by a bridge, and it is possible to travel most conveniently by high-speed train from Kastrup Airport to Kristianstad Railway Station. The trip takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes and costs 169 SEK one way (Dec 2007). The trains leave Copenhagen Central Railway Station, pass by Kastrup (Track 1) 11 minutes later and make a stop in Malmö before heading for Kristianstad. They leave roughly twice every hour (starting at 4.16 on weekdays) - the ones leaving Kastrup at 56 minutes past the hour go directly to Kristianstad, while the trains that leave at 16 minutes past the hour stop in Hässleholm where you have to change trains. Skanetrafikens website have a journey planner for your convenience.

From Malmö Airport (Sturup): Those arriving at Malmö Airport (Sturup) need to take a bus from the airport - known as "Flygbussarna" - to Malmö Central Railway Station (about 45 minutes, 95 SEK), and from there take the train to Kristianstad. The trains from Malmö to Kristianstad leave at 28 minutes past every hour throughout the day, starting 5.28 on weekdays. Or 4 minutes past the hour throughout the day with a change of trains in Hässleholm. The trip takes a bit more than an hour and costs 87 SEK (Dec 2007)

From Kristianstad Airport: Those arriving at Kristianstad airport (Everöd) can take a taxi from the airport directly to Kristianstad Railway Station, which costs about 60 SEK.

...and how to get away from there:

We will have buses leaving Bäckaskog castle heading for Kristianstad Railway Station on Friday 8th. From there you can take the train to either Malmö or Copenhagen - the trains leave Kristianstad 23 minutes or 50 minutes past the hour, starting at 5.23 until 23.23. The trains arrive in Malmö one hour and ten minutes later and arrive at Kastrup about 1 hour and 45 minutes after departure.

Other modes of transportation:

By car: If you are travelling by car, the bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö is open to motorists as well. There are also car and passenger ferry connections to southern Sweden from Germany (Scandlines, phone +46 42 186100, TT-Line, phone +46 410 56000 and Nordö-ferries +49 (0) 4502 80520). Another possibility is to take the ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg, approximately 30 min travel (Scandlines, phone: +46 42 186100, or HH-ferries, phone: +46 449 260155). It is recommended to make a reservation for your car on all ferry lines.

Try to get to Kristianstad prior to mid-afternoon. This way you will make it for dinner, and welcoming drinks in the main state room of the castle!

Some of you may need a visa to enter Sweden, at this point in time (Dec 2007) this concerns those delegates arriving from India, Russia and South Africa. Information about visas can be found at Migrationsverkets hemsida. Make sure you apply for a visa in good time before the conference.

We (Eric Warrant, Dan-Eric Nilsson & Anna Gislén) will be available at all times by telephone (+46 705 480235) if you experience any transport problems and require assistance.
